The Sahara and Sahel Observatory is organizing a training workshop from February 26th to March 1st, 2024, on the use and adoption of MISBAR, MISLAND, and GUETCROP tools to meet the needs of the Libyan Agricultural Research Center, a key actor supporting the Libyan Ministry of Agriculture in monitoring agricultural campaigns. The workshop was launched by Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, OSS Executive Secretary, who commended the commitment of the Libyan participants to build their capacities and improve their knowledge of Earth Observation applications and better contribute to food security in Libya. He also reaffirmed the OSS willingness to supporting them and consolidating synergies between both parties.

Several thematic sessions will be organized during the workshop and will focus on the optimized use of EO-derived products in seasonal agriculture, sustainable land management and soil degradation. The first session of February 26th, 2024 made it possible to go over concepts related to EO utilization for monitoring rainfed and irrigated crops. Practical demos were conducted to explain the use of MISBAR and GUETCROP, covering various applications such as irrigated cereal areas and cultivated areas monitoring, early warning and anomaly analysis and crop growth monitoring.

By the end of the training, a roadmap will be developed for closer collaboration with the aim of developing specific use cases that meet the needs of the Libyan users.
