The Sahara and Sahel Observatory received in Tunis, a mission of the coordination unit of the GMES & Africa program of the African Union, led by Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, coordinator of the GMES&Africa program and composed of Dr. Bachir Saley, Director in charge of water and natural resources and Ing. Hamdi Kacem, Technical Assistant of the program.
Among the highlights of this mission were visits to direct beneficiaries and end-users of GMES services developed by the OSS, leader of the North Africa Consortium.
Within this framework, meetings on the ground were carried out at the level of the Regional Commissariats for Agricultural Development of two governorates of Manouba and Bizerte which allowed the project management unit to inquire about the added value of the services that the project made available to them within the framework of their mandate, in particular through the monitoring platforms of water, agriculture and land (MISBAR and MISLAND) developed by the OSS
Interviews by videoconference were also organized with the national partners (Algeria, Libya and Mauritania, members of the North Africa consortium) in order to collect their feedbacks on the implementation of the project.
The mission also aimed at discussing with OSS the lessons learned and the perspectives for GMES & Africa, whose 1st phase will end at the end of 2021.
