Second edition of the NewSpace Africa Conference, April 25-28, 2023 - Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The OSS - North Africa Consortium is taking part in the second edition of the "NewSpace Africa Conference" which is currently being held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Organized by Space in Africa, in collaboration with the African Union Commission, this Conference brings together the main stakeholders working on the African space sector development and promotion.
The African space industry development and evolution, the key players, regulation and legislation of this process, were put to discussions during the sessions of the first day of this Conference. The debates also focused on the activities of African space agencies as well as the implementation of their space programs, in addition to the challenges encountered and the opportunities likely to help enhance the space industry and propose innovative solutions for the benefit of the different stakeholders. Mr. Anis Frika from CNCT, Mr. Akram Alkasih from LCRSSS, Mr. El Hadi Gashut from CRTEAN and other leaders of the OSS - North Africa Consortium and national and regional institutions promoting spatial data, took their experiences to enrich the discussions of the day.
The works of Day 1 came to prove that the effective development of the Earth Observation industry in Africa could be done only with the technical, human and scientific capacity building of the space agencies and adaptation to the realities and needs of the countries, on the one hand, and with the support to the private sector, including start-ups and SMEs, particularly in the field of new technologies (Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) to make sure that large volumes of spatial data are collected, stored and processed, on the other hand.
