A LOOK BACK AT A RICH OSS MISSION IN EAST AFRICA, BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE, MARCH 2021

Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the OSS paid a working visit to Uganda and Ethiopia from 15 to 19 March 2021.

During the different meetings, Mr. Executive Secretary had the opportunity to present the Organization, its 2030 strategy and its achievements but also to express the needs and expectations and to exchange on the collaboration perspectives.

He was able to meet with the Minister of Water Resources and Environment of Uganda, Mr. Sam Cheptoris, as well as the national coordinator of the EURECCCA project, financed by the Adaptation Fund, and his entire team. 

At the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, promising prospects for collaboration emerged from discussions with Dr. Godfrey Bahiigwa, Director of the Rural Economy and Agriculture Department and Dr. Mahama Ouedraogo, Director of the Human Resources, Science and Technology Department. A meeting with Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, Coordinator of the GMES & Africa program, allowed to discuss the new perspectives of the GMES program dedicated to space observation.

On the sidelines of these meetings, the Executive Secretary of the OSS visited H.E. Mr. Adelhamid Gharbi, Ambassador of Tunisia in Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, and H.E. Mr. Salah Miloud Sahboun, Ambassador of the Arab League in Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU.

This mission of Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra was an opportunity to confirm the commitment of the OSS to support the efforts of African countries, political organizations and technical institutions in the actions they undertake in order to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations and 2063 of the African Union. It was positively received by the partners who reaffirmed their support to OSS and their commitment for the future.
