Did you know that the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions is Land sector with 25% of global emissions right after the energy sector and that half of said emissions (5-10 GtCO2 annually) result from deforestation and forest degradation?
Indeed, 2.6 billion tons of carbon dioxide, representing one-third of the CO2 emissions comes from burning fossil fuels and is absorbed by forests every year (source: IUCN).
The Misland platform was developed as part of the GMES&Africa project. It makes it possible to monitor Land Degradation in North Africa and integrates the assessment of Forest Carbon Emissions through dedicated Geo-Web-Services. To find out more, a virtual training session was held today to train end users on the use of Misland to assess Forest Carbon Emissions.
