In the framework of the GMES & Africa Earth Observation project for a Sustainable Management of Land and Water in North Africa, the National Center for Mapping and Remote Sensing (CNCT) organized on October 23 in Tunis, in partnership with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory, a national reconstruction workshop.

In the framework of the GMES & Africa Earth Observation project for a Sustainable Management of Land and Water in North Africa, the Royal Center for Remote Sensing (CRTS) in Rabat organized on October 4 in Rabat, in partnership with the Observatory Sahara and Sahel, a restitution workshop.

As part of the "Earth Observation for Sustainable Land and Water Management in North Africa" project, implemented by the OSS and its national and regional partners and in charge of remote sensing, namely ASAL (Algeria), DRC (Egypt), LCRSSS (Libya), CRTS (Morocco), the Al-Aasriya Nouakchott University (Mauritania) and CNCT (Tunisia) at the national level and CRTEAN and CRASTE- LF at the regional level, a regional workshop for the restitution of national studies and thinking on GMES & Africa services is held in Rabat, Morocco on July 16 and 17 2019.

GMES & Africa is a pilot project that aims to meet the needs of decision-makers for global access to reliable, accurate and up-to-date information on environment and security issues.

As part of the GMES & Africa activities in Algeria, led by the Algerian Space Agency in partnership with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory under the project "Earth Observation for Sustainable Land and Water Management in North Africa", a national restitution workshop of the "Identification of End-User Needs, Diagnosis of the Existing and Definition of Pilot Service Areas" study was held on April 17th and 18th,2019 in Arzew, in the Space Techniques Center from the Algerian Space Agency (STC - ASAL).

GMES&Africa is a user-driver project to support the public policy maker’s need for global access to reliable, accurate and up-to-date information on issues of environment and security.

As part of the AfriCultuReS and GMES & Africa OSS & Africa OSS-North Africa projects, an OSS delegation composed of three experts in remote sensing and GIS (Mustapha Mimouni, Mohamed Aziz Belhamra and Louis Evence Zoungrana) organized a field mission to collect data for monitoring and modelling crop growth in Tunisia. The field visit mainly concerned the communes of Bousalem, Jendouba North, Jendouba South and Oued Mliz.

Experts and focal points responsible for monitoring and evaluation of the 13 GMES & Africa consortia and African consortia across Africa, organized a monitoring and evaluation workshop in the Tunisian capital. The four-day workshop aimed at strengthening the capacities of the focal points, with a view to fostering common understanding and supporting experts by providing them with the necessary monitoring and evaluation tools and protocols for the GMES & Africa implementation process.

OSS participates to several side events, in which one side event related on training and capacity building to enhance Earth Observation operational services, and set up an information booth to present to the wide public, the GMES North Africa project, and the several services to be developed by the project, in the framework of the GMES & Africa programme. 

As part of the first meeting of the Technical Committee of the Global Monitoring for the Environment and Security in Africa Program (GMES & Africa), held in Tunis from 14 to 16 May 2018, a visit to the OSS headquarters was organized for the Committee’s members. Following a welcome address delivered by the OSS Executive Secretary, Mr Khatim Kherraz, the GMES & Africa delegation was able to meet with the OSS staff and to have a closer and more detailed idea about the Organization’s work in the field of spatial observation.
