A LOOK BACK AT A RICH OSS MISSION IN EAST AFRICA, BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE, MARCH 2021

Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the OSS paid a working visit to Uganda and Ethiopia from 15 to 19 March 2021.

During the different meetings, Mr. Executive Secretary had the opportunity to present the Organization, its 2030 strategy and its achievements but also to express the needs and expectations and to exchange on the collaboration perspectives.

The 2019 Africa-GIS Conference Underlines the Imperatives of Technology and innovation for Better Living Conditions in Africa

Kigali, 19 November 2019: A team of experts from the GMES and Africa programme of the African Union Commission are among hundreds of delegates attending the Africa-GIS 2019 Conference in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.  The biennial conference is a flagship and marketplace of Geospatial information in Africa organized to contribute to the development of skills and institutional capacity across the continent.

GMES&AFRICA MISSION MEETS PARTNERS AND END-USERS OF WATER, AGRICULTURE AND LAND SERVICES DEVELOPED BY OSS, MARCH 29-31, 2021

The Sahara and Sahel Observatory received in Tunis, a mission of the coordination unit of the GMES & Africa program of the African Union, led by Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, coordinator of the GMES&Africa program and composed of Dr. Bachir Saley, Director in charge of water and natural resources and Ing. Hamdi Kacem, Technical Assistant of the program. 

Among the highlights of this mission were visits to direct beneficiaries and end-users of GMES services developed by the OSS, leader of the North Africa Consortium.

Mauritania develops a University Centre for Mapping and Remote Sensing, led by the GMES&Africa Focal Point

Dr. Houda Babah, GMES&Africa Project National Focal Point and Head of the Cooperation Development with the OSS for the valuation of Earth Observation products for a Sustainable Management of Natural Resources has just been appointed Head of the new University Centre for Mapping and Remote Sensing (UCMRS), recently set up at the University of Nouakchott Al-Aasriya (UNA).

GMES&Africa: training on the use of the Agriculture and Water Withdrawals in North Africa Monitoring Service - MISBAR, February 9-10, 2021

Start-up of the tele-training second round on Seasonal Agriculture and Agricultural Water Use in Irrigated Areas via the MISBAR platform, organized by the OSS as part of the GMES&Africa - North Africa Consortium project training program.

Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, OSS Executive Secretary opened this training, which will provide the opportunity to agriculture and water resources managers to get used to the MISBAR service platform, and analyse Earth Observation data for seasonal agriculture and agricultural water use monitoring.

GMES & Africa-North Africa Consortium: Regional training workshop on the use of the "Land Degradation Monitoring" service - MISLAND, February 3, 2021

The OSS organized a regional training workshop on Vegetation Degradation Monitoring via the MISLAND platform as part of the GMES & Africa - North Africa Consortium project training program.
This training aims to get used and started with the "MISLAND" platform for Land Degradation Monitoring service through theoretical sessions and practical demos.

The training session on Earth Observation through SDG indicator 15.3.1 monitoring for the use of dedicated geospatial services started this morning. This training is part of the online training program set up by the OSS as part of the GMES and Africa - North Africa Consortium project dedicated to the use of the three decision support services: Water, Agriculture and Land Degradation.
